Second Empire
Another popular architectural style contemporary to the Italianate style was the Second Empire, which was inspired by the French designers. This type of house had a mansard roof, decorated with dormer windows, iron cresting and coloured tile patterns. Many referred to these houses as Renaissance Revival since additional decorative items were often used to give the style even more of a Renaissance look.
