Italianate
This style became popular between 1860 and 1880. Architects designed building plans taking inspiration from the country villas of northern Italy. These houses could be recognised by their angled bay windows and rectangular bodies. Most Italianate houses were two or three storied with low pitched roofs and tall, narrow windows that were U or L shaped. They were also characterised by painted and scored exterior woods to resemble stones, sliding doors to verandas, large eave brackets, interior rooms designed to reflect the inhabitant's moral and intellectual character.
