Sir Jeffery Wyatville
Sir Jeffery Wyatville was a renowned English architect who lived from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. Born in the year 1766, Wyatville has also managed to make a name for himself as an accomplished landscape gardener. His name was originally Wyatt and he is in fact a member of the distinguished Wyatt clan of architects.
It was only later that he changed his surname to Wyatville. His first name Jeffery has also been spelled alternatively as Jeffry.
Jeffery Wyatville received his earliest training in the field of architecture under the instruction of his uncles Samuel Wyatt and James Wyatt, who were themselves both accomplished architects in their own right.
Perhaps Jeffery's greatest claim to fame was his work on the alteration and extension projects undertaken in both the Chatsworth House and Windsor Castle. He also played a large role in the completion of the gothic styled Ashridge that was built in Hertfordshire. Wyatville's uncle, James Wyatt, originally began the project.
Some of the many garden designs that have been associated with Wyatville include the gardens at Badminton House in Gloucestershire, Belton House in Lincolnshire, and Bretton Hall in West Yorkshire.
Sir Jeffery Wyatville died in the year 1840.
