Glossary

Family Ancestry Research History, this glossary of definitions is mainly and specifically related to genealogy, some are very specific whilst others can have other meanings outside the realm of genealogy.  Additional information can be found in the Black's Law Dictionary and also the traditional Oxford English Dictionary.

  • Abstract: A summary of a theory and/or argument pointing out the main points in a document.
  • Abstract Company: A company (private firm) compiling real estate and legal histories.
  • Administrator: An appointed person, usually by the court, that handles an estate.
  • Agricultural Schedule: A farmer federal census listing farms and crops (1850-1880).
  • Allied and Associated Families: A family that traveled intermarried and attended church.
  • Archives: Private and/or public records or agency record repository.
